Laura Van Horne- Stitched

In her show Stitched, Van Horne breathes new life into materials from the past through a process of deconstruction and reassembly. Vintage papers, photographs, fabrics, and matchbooks are cut apart, layered, stitched, and fused together to form richly textured surfaces that echo the passage of time. Each piece, quilt-like in its construction, reveals visible stitches and raw edges—marks of both making and memory—woven into new narratives that honor and transform the remnants of what once was.

Please join us at Gray Sky Gallery, 320 1st Ave S, on Thursday, December 4th 5-8 pm during Pioneer Square First Thursday Art Walk to meet Laura and hear about her work.

Terry Richardson- Reclaimed: Beauty in the Forgotten

Terry Richardson- Reclaimed: Beauty in the Forgotten

In October we present Reclaimed: Beauty in the Forgotten, a solo exhibition by artist/sculptor Terry Richardson. Her highly textured, deconstructed, upcycled paper and book paintings explore the transformative potential of materials often overlooked. This exhibition invites viewers to see the world around them through a lens of renewal and possibility.

Richardson’s work centers on the quiet beauty of reclaimed and repurposed materials—revealing how discarded elements can be reimagined into organic, evocative forms. The sculptures draw inspiration from natural and cellular structures, suggesting growth, resilience, and the quiet architecture of life itself. Reclaimed challenges traditional ideas of value and aesthetics, encouraging viewers to reconsider their relationships with material and environment. Each piece stands as a statement of intentional renewal—where what is available becomes the foundation for something expressive and alive.

Opening reception will take place during Pioneer Square First Thursday Art Walk on October 2nd, from 5-8 pm at Gray Sky Gallery, 320 1st Ave S. Terry will be present if you are interested in meeting her and discussing her work.

Untitled- Al Schwartz

Untitled- Al Schwartz

For the month of August we are excited to introduce Al Schwartz with his show ‘Untitled’

‘Where felt sense finds form.’

‘Untitled’, is a series of original works by artist Al Schwartz shaped by over three decades of creative evolution, from a tactile foundation in ceramics and sculpture, to a richly intuitive abstract painting practice.

My art is a collaboration between myself, the materials, and the moment. It's rooted in intuition, in what I call a "felt sense," a kind of knowing that lives in the body, mind, and spirit before it ever takes shape in words or form. I build up layers, then break them down, adding, subtracting, scraping back, rebuilding. It's a natural rhythm of creation and destruction, control and chaos, complexity and simplicity, always moving, always discovering, always becoming. What emerges is not a rendering of something outside of itself, but the art as its own subject. Each piece is a singular object-one-of-a-kind, never repeatable. It has its own voice.

To me, this way of working mirrors life. There are struggles and breakthroughs, challenges and beauty. The history of each mark, and each layer carries the memory of that journey. The result is not a perfect form, but a visual and emotional terrain that's honest, raw, and reflective.

The title “Untitled”, is a conscious choice. It reflects my intention to leave the work open, free from narrative. The viewer is invited to engage and connect with the work on a sensory and emotional level guided by the same "felt sense" that drives my own creative process.

Artist Reception will take place during Pioneer Square First Thursday Art Walk on August 7th, from 5-8 pm at Gray Sky Gallery, 320 1st Ave S. Al will be present and happy to speak about his work with you.
