Gina Holt was born in New York in 1959 and now lives and works from her home studio in Bothell, Washington. She credits her father, a dancer, and her mother, an artist, with nurturing the creativity that has shaped her life. As a child, she spent countless hours drawing, painting, and inventing imaginary characters for the stories she loved to illustrate.
Gina earned a Bachelor of Arts in Art from the University of Oregon, where she studied printmaking, illustration, and painting. After graduation, she expanded her artistic practice by studying ceramic hand-building at Pottery Northwest. Working with clay opened an entirely new creative world, allowing her to transform the two-dimensional language of drawing and painting into richly textured, sculptural forms that combine illustration, sculpture, and color.
Her current body of work features vibrant botanical-inspired sculptures designed to stand freely or hang on the wall. Each piece begins with careful observation of living plants and detailed botanical imagery. From these inspirations, Gina sculpts intricate forms that capture the complexity, movement, light, and shadow found in nature. Layers of glazes, paints, and textures bring depth and character to every sculpture, making each one a unique expression of the natural world. Every piece is individually signed, numbered, and inscribed on the back.
